Nearly Normal

I suck at math

specifically at multiplication and division.  Yes me a former budget analyst can't do 3rd grade math in my head anymore.  Thank you American Express.  It's a long story and I'm not going there.

I've discovered two new wonderful sites lumocity and kahn academy that have pointed out to me that I can no longer do simple math.  Lumocity is more fun, their slogan is "reclaim your brain".  Kahn academy is more like having a tutor.

Oh, I also had reinforced that I can't spell my way out of a paper bag.  I already knew that.  Spoken language is not a problem ask Larry but spelling that's an entirely different country.  Thank goodness for spell check.

Depression

or the blessed lack there of.  I've battled it for years now, to the edge of suicide more than once and back.  I never want to hear anyone say "oh you can just snap out of it".  No, you can't trust me I tried my very best to snap out of it.  With the help of a wonderful therapist and drugs depression is at bay.  I won't say it's behind me because I don't think that's true.  But it doesn't control my life like it has in the past.  It's nice to see color again, worry about my garden again, want to participate in life again.

Bless you Dr. Sanity and Abilify without the 2 of you I wouldn't be here. 

The whole zen of painting thing

I didn't get there.

We're working on one of our rentals.  The previous tenant just trashed it.  We're trying to untrash it.  To that end I painted the floor of the small bedroom.  Not bad, satisfaction of a job well done, etc.

Then I moved on to one of the outside walls.  I tried to go all zen with the painting really find some space where I was not cursing said tenant the entire time I was painting, not so much.  Next I tackled another outside wall which needed patches primed before it can be painted, again no zen.

I've come to the conclusion that painting in this particular place is always going to suck no matter what.  Too bad I still have the kitchen to paint - curses.

I had a workplace bully

His name was Kevin.  He was such an abusive person that when he applied for another managment position an entire department threatened to quit rather than work for him.

 

This email left me speechless and that's almost impossible

While my love sleeps on the couch, I sit at the computer getting outraged at the news.  Today I received this email from ThinkProgress

“Where are the women?” With those four words, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) made the most poignant statement of the week about the House GOP’s attitude towards women. The simple answer to Maloney’s question is that women are being callously left out and left behind by the right wing.

According to a recent Democracy Corps survey, there’s been a net 18-point swing away from Mitt Romney in favor President Obama among unmarried women in the past few months. Why? Because women have been watching and listening to conservatives. Here’s a sampling of what we heard just this past week:

At least they’re being honest about what they feel.

It's political time - yea

I must admit I'm disapointed with Obama but one must make allowences for him having to clean up after Shrub and deal with an uncooperate House.  But the idea of ANY of the Republicans currently running getting in the White House send shivers down my spine!

Um, not so much. 

I'm fat, I'm lazy, I'm not a consistently good friend to my oldest and dearest friends.  Ther is always a book to be read or a garment to be knitted that comes before doing what I really need to do.  But I'm working on it.  Dr. Sanity as commented that I'm very hard on myself and I acknowledge that I set standards for myself that I don't expect others to meet.  I think that I was so sick as a kid that I wanted to be perfect in every other way so I wouldn't take even more attention from my sisters that I already did.

So here we go launching 2012 looking toward fulfilling as those New Year's goals.  70 pounds to go, 3 days of exercise a week to institute, more time on Dr. Sanity's couch so I can grow to love my self.  Also need to keep working on the not humble, tolerent or patient thing which is getting much better but still has room to go. 

So it's the fault of the media?

In a not so stunning statement of non-responsibility Herman Cain suspended his race for  President today.  Nice trick suspending his bid allows him to still raise money to retire his debt.  BUT,  it's not because of all the sexual harassment and supposed affair that is causing him to withdrawal but the media covering said actions.

Right, people have not noticed his total lack of ability for the job, the numerous gaffs and displays of down right ignorance - Libya is just one instance that comes to mind.

So that leaves us with Romney who no one likes and Gingrich who is a complete hypocrite.

Over the river, through the woods and beyond

To Mike's house we went for our usual Thanksgiving extravaganza.  It was delightful as always.  Every year I marvel at our 20 and 30 somethings turn into grownups before our very eyes.  And now we have a third generation represented yesterday in the form of Elise and her on the way baby brother or sister.  As usual dinner was big enough to feed an army, the table was filled to overflowing with food, love, laughter, toasts, general good cheer and 24 people.  I LOVE IT.

Today I resisted the urge to head to Purls of Joy for what I'm sure was a black Friday yarn sale. Amazing how you can resist things when you have to money!  Instead we finished cleaning out the cabin where a tenant moved out.  I use the term finished loosely as the carpets are so disgusting we have to rip them out as well.  A task for another day and someone not plagued by allergies

She left EVERYTHING.  And I do mean everything up to and including a full refrigerator.  I swept the kitchen floor, stood back to admire my work and concluded you couldn't even tell I'd touched it.  This a floor that was installed less than 6 months ago.

While someone tackled the big things like bed frames, furniture and mattresses I raked, yes raked the carpet.  We managed to get everything out of the place in 2 1/2 hours then I rushed home an took a shower.  I was tempted to toss my clothes in the garbage but they went in the laundry instead.

Now it's time to load up the dumpster, drop acceptable toys at the Salvation Army and burn the rest.

Now I remember why we decided to sell the 30 acres!
