The Series or Barak

Here's my best recreation of the post I lost.

Currently at our house it's the series, come 8 pm it's Barak.  

Does anyone but me find baseball on tv the MOST. BORING. GAME. EVER?  Well maybe golf but baseball is a close second.  I don't mind it live, Pacbell park is great for people watching and buying way over priced beer.  Yes I know some people call it AT&T park but in the hearts of Giants lovers everywhere it will always be known as Pacbell park.  Just as Monster Park will always be called Candlestick Park.  You can buy way overpriced beer there as well.

A friend of ours (and he's a big fan) says baseball is hours of boredom broken by seconds of excitement.  I have to say I agree with him.

I notice in the backround the game has been replaced by Mythbusters.  If you haven't seen in seek it out.  It's a riot, they really like to blow things up and if you have kids introduce them to the program.  It proves that science can REALLY be fun.  An added bonus one of the scientist is a woman.  Go Kari! Maybe they'll be convinced to be a scientist when they grow up.  God knows we need more of them in this country. If I had a kid they would have been parked in front of Mythbusters from birth.

Who knows you may be raising the person who cures cancer or Parkinson's disease, or develops flying cars.  Parents it's up to you, you just never know.

I just had this wonderful post ready to post and typepad went nuts. I'm going to try and recreate it because it was great if I do say so myself.

Radicals and terrorists

Will SOMEONE, anyone please put a muzzle on Sarah Palin?  She's out there stirring up hatred everywhere she goes.

Now she's announced that if McCain/Palin loses she's not going back to Alaska but will stay here in the lower 48 so she can get established to run for president in 2012.  Kind of tacky to talk about running in 2012 while you're running for VP in 2008.  But then that's our Sarah.

Then there's little pockets of real American she talks about.  Apparently most of us are unrealAmericanans. I'll give you a sneak peak.

"Robin Hayes, a Republican congressman from North Carolina, provided details on Americans who do not qualify as real. “Liberals hate real Americans that work, and accomplish, and achieve, and believe in God.” Both Palin and Hayes later “clarified” their remarks to say they had not actually meant to suggest the existence of pro- and anti-American parts of the country. Nevertheless, their words prompted a vivid debate in cyberspace and on talk radio."

And now Liddy Dole (R-NC) who's in a tough race to hang on to her Senate seat is calling her opponent godless.  

I REALLY, REALLY think it's time, actually way past time,  for religion to be removed from politics.

CA Prop 8

It gives same sex couples the right to get married you can imagine here in California were in an uproar about it.y  The other side is convinced it's the end of the world if prop 8 goes down to defeat.  Most of us on the other hand will be filled with joy that the people we love will now be able to marry the person they love most in the world.  That they will have the incredible treasure of being allowed to grow old together and not worry about being shut out of medical decisions let alone hospital rooms, finances or any other things that heterosexual couple have.

One of their ads states that gay marriage was forced upon 4 million people in CA.  Um, when you consider that the estimated population of CA is 36.5 million people that means there's a lot of fear and hate mongering going on in very small  minority.  And bless their narrow minded little hearts I'm betting most of them live in Orange County our token Republican county.

They are absolutely horrified about this.  Never mind that all the parents except 1 signed permission slips to allow the kids to attend the wedding.  Now all those precious little minds will be "recruited" by the gay and lesbian communities!  No all those precious little minds will be filled with the idea that it's ok to love any one you chose and be able to marry them for better or for worst, in sickness and in health, til death do us part.  I think that's a very powerful lesson for those kids to learn.

So YES on 8 people take your proposition and crawl back under your rocks.

A view from the edge

I'm at that point where I have more good days than bad, but damn when they're bad they're really bad.  I've probably said this before.  Dr. Sanity claims she can see more of "me" most times I see her.  I do feel more of the ground under my feet but still feel that I'm at the edge of a cliff, so easy to fall.

I finally pulled it back together after the debate and a small archaeological dig with Dr. Sanity and had a fairly long string of good days.  Then Friday night I fell apart over the idea that something could happen to Amy or Dr. Sanity.  There was actually a trigger but I don't want to go into it because it will just set me off again.  Made a call to Dr. Sanity that I actually couldn't finish because I was crying so much, she called back later and talked me down.

I knew that I had become dependent on her for support but did not realized just HOW attached I'd already become.  I've decided she can only walk places from now on.

I have an appt with Dr. Drug tomorrow.  I have a feeling she may tweak things yet again as yesterday was a shining example of instability.  Also sleep remains an iffy thing but that could be related to the cough that hits me in the middle of the night and doesn't go away.  Making a call to Amy's office tomorrow about getting some stronger cough meds, the OTC stuff doesn't really do much.

So it appears tomorrow will be one of those flashback days - 2 and possibly 3 doctor appts in the same day.  Haven't done that for a while.

In the meantime the election ugliness goes on.  I finished my voting yesterday now I just have to mail it in.  In the process of wading through all the ballot initiatives I've made a NEW RULE.  They must be written in common sense English and voting yes means your for it, no means against.  Some of these things are so badly written you're not entirely sure what it is you're voting for.

Fun and games

Yes really, at least for 1 night.  We're both BIG Jimmy Buffet fans but have never seen him live.  I found out a few months ago that he was giving a concert in Mountain View.

As an early birthday surprise for LR I got tickets and booked a 3 night stay at one of our favorite hotels in the City.

The first night got sacrificed to FWF that was held on Monday instead.  The third night got sacrificed to not calling the house sitter soon enough.  Max has to take his chemo every other day so we couldn't leave him for more than one night.

But the one night we got, FABULOUS.  Jimmy and the Coral Reefer band along with thousands of singing, screaming fans.  Fans that knew at least part of the words for every single song.  Fans in parrot hats, lamp shades and fin hats.  Little kids dressed in shark costumes.  Landshark lager and margaritas were flowing which only helped the mood of the crowd.  Almost 3 non-stop hours of fun.  I'd forgotten what a blast it is to be in a big crowd, singing along.  He played new stuff, he played old stuff, he even played Bob Dylan's "Everybody must get stoned" with the crowd gleefully sang at the tops of our lungs.

I ended up losing my voice for most of the day but who cares?  I had FUN!

I'd had a rough couple of days before we went so I wasn't sure how involved I'd get but once the music started - oh my.  Jimmy Buffet live does good things for the soul.

Way to go Google!

I love google.  I use it all the time, it's my go to search engine.

I was reading another blog today and came across this statement from Corporate Google.

Our position on California's No on 8 campaign

As an Internet company, Google is an active participant in policy debates surrounding information access, technology and energy. Because our company has a great diversity of people and opinions -- Democrats and Republicans, conservatives and liberals, all religions and no religion, straight and gay -- we do not generally take a position on issues outside of our field, especially not social issues. So when Proposition 8 appeared on the California ballot, it was an unlikely question for Google to take an official company position on.

However, while there are many objections to this proposition -- further government encroachment on personal lives, ambiguously written text -- it is the chilling and discriminatory effect of the proposition on many of our employees that brings Google to publicly oppose Proposition 8. While we respect the strongly-held beliefs that people have on both sides of this argument, we see this fundamentally as an issue of equality. We hope that California voters will vote no on Proposition 8 -- we should not eliminate anyone's fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love.

Unless you've been living in a cave you've probably heard about Prop 8.  You know you'll be forced to accept same sex marriage, your children will be taught about it in school, the usual "the world as we know it will end" crap.  Funny how Massachusetts legalized same sex marriage since 2004 and the world has kept spinning on.

Laundry ... sigh

Laundry and I are ... not good friends.  I don't mind doing it but there are so many more important things to do like read the paper, or a magazine, or a book, or someone's blog.

I'm just washing the same set of sheets for the third, yes that's right, the third time because I put them in the machine and then forget about them.  So they sit for a couple of days and of course I can't just transfer them to the dryer they might have gotten moldy in the mean time.  Through the washer they go again.  Possibly, just possibly they might make it to the dryer today.  AND then I'll start over with a new load of clothing or towels or dog bed covers.

Why didn't some one tell me that when you grow up clean clothing does not magically appear in your drawers or closet and adding insult to injury it doesn't iron itself either.

The war on drugs

Here's the state of the war on drugs in Sonoma county.

I picked up one of my prescriptions today - signed the HIPAA notice and was on my way

I dropped off a prescription for Max for his chemo medicine - filled out a "client" form for a dog and was on my way

I went to Target to get some cough syrup - I had to show my LEGAL ID.  I almost laughed out loud but the clerk seemed to take the requirement very seriously so I restrained my self.

Yep fighting the war on drugs by IDing people who buy cough syrup.  The war should be over any day now.

Things I did while watching the debate last night

Prepped to make the roasted tomato soup, screamed at the tv, did a couple of loads of laundry, screamed at the tv again, got the soup cooked, screamed at the tv, got the soup strained, screamed at the tv, got the soup put in canning jars so they can go in the freezer, poured a glass of wine sat down and screamed at the tv.

Can they not JUST. ANSWER. THE. FUCKING. QUESTION?  Either one of them although I must say McCain raised not answering to an art form last night.  That along with his George Bush smirk, gotcha smiles, and "air words" almost did me in.

Then when he went on his riff about abortion and women's health, well I just lost in completely.  Larry and I sat in total silence looking at one another and saying did her REALLY do/say that?  On national television?  When how many millions of women were watching?

And healthcare what can you say about healthcare?  McCain's plan scares the hell out of me and where on earth does he think families are going to get decent health insurance coverage for $5000 a year?  Geez, I have employer subsidized insurance and I pay $5, 760 per year just in premiums just for me.  God that's a lot of money!  I've never really paid attention before, I just look at my $480 premium each month and think thank god I can still afford it.

And all that good feeling I had about being off suicide watch took a severe blow.  I pulled it together put now I'm really upset about being upset.  Waiting for a call from Dr. Sanity to give me some grounding.
